Trolley Car Barn Investigation

We're investigating the streetcar barn. Where the streetcars take their nightly nap, but spirits never sleep! The George Issacs Carbarn was first constructed around 1971, when rides first started at the Como-Harriet right of way. Once it became clear that the Minnesota Transportation Museum needed more room to house its expanding fleet of streetcars, additional space was built. Construction of the carbarn was completed, for the time being, in 2015.

Located under the Linden Hills Boulevard Bridge, the carbarn was built at one of the old streetcar stops along the remaining Como-Harriet right of way. The cement staircase that leads down to the side of the barn was originally used to access the streetcars, which paused underneath the bridge to load and unload passengers. The carbarn can successfully hold three regular-sized streetcars and provide space for them to be worked on during the winter months. In addition to tools, many streetcar artifacts adorn the walls of the barn. The library also holds a comprehensive collection of streetcar books, artifacts, and records related to the Twin Cities Rapid Transit Company and other streetcar lines around the country.

Spirits on a Streetcar - Halloween Investigations!

Take a ride on the historic 116-year-old Minneapolis trolley this Halloween and see if any spirits join us! We’ll be using real investigation equipment to identify any possible paranormal activity on this historic streetcar. We’ll travel past the lakes and along Lakewood Cemetery while the night surrounds us in hopes of speaking to someone from beyond. This is an exclusive event with limited seating.
